Environmental chemistry plays a critical role in understanding contamination, protecting human health, and ensuring regulatory compliance. At ECT we provide high-quality testing services across soil, water, and waste matrices, supporting clients throughout the full lifecycle of environmental investigation and management.

Quality and Confidence

At ECT, quality underpins everything we do. Our laboratory operates under strict quality control systems, using validated methods and advanced instrumentation to ensure consistent, reliable results.

We understand that environmental data is often used to support regulatory submissions and critical project decisions. That’s why we focus on delivering testing that is technically robust, fully traceable, and defensible.

PFAS

Following recent publication of Defra’s PFAS Plan, there is now an urgent focus on  the identification of the nature & extent of the sources of this extensive range of persistent organo-fluorine chemicals and their management.

ECT can assist the water and waste industries, environmental professionals, manufacturers and regulators with appropriate monitoring and testing programmes to inform process change, audit environmental impact and support the aspirations of the Defra Plan.

POPs

Persistent Organic Pollutants comprise a wide range of halogenated chemicals which are characterised by lengthy environmental persistence, accumulation in living organisms (especially higher in the food chain), and toxicity to humans and wildlife. POPs occur in a range of pesticides, as a minor constituent in upholstery made before 2019 and in older waste electrical & electronic equipment (WEEE).

The 2007 POPs Regulations require that waste containing POPs can only be disposed of by incineration. New requirements were added by the Environment Agency in 2023 relating to the storage & destruction of POPs waste.

ECT can help businesses generating potential POPs waste to identify and quantify the level of contaminants, in order to manage materials effectively and ensure regulatory compliance.
